For Mind & Comfort

imagine a rainbow book

Boys Book: Imagine a Rainbow

One of the toughest things for any child to learn when dealing with cancer and chemo treatment is how to handle their fears and anxieties. It’s a difficult thing for an adult to deal with, much less a child! That’s why we love this Imagine a Rainbow book, which encourages children to imagine a number of things that help them focus their minds and deal with the pain they’re experiencing.
bald headed princess book

Girls Book: The Bald Headed Princess

It’s challenging for all children to manage stress and anxiety. With a cancer diagnosis and having to go through chemo treatment, those emotions are intensified. It understandably prompts questions, concerns and fears. There are lots of books that exclusively aim to support children with cancer (which is especially helpful when parents have difficulty figuring out what to say and how to answer their child’s questions). We’ve sourced various books that ...

Snacks

bean boozled

Jelly Belly Bean Boozled

This isn’t just an ordinary bag of jelly beans. It’s a fun game! Filled with 20 flavors, but 10 are weird (like rotten eggs and boogers). And the other 10 (in the same colors) are normal and delicious. For instance, one of the blue jelly beans is berry blue, while the other is flavored like toothpaste. This is a welcome distraction that’s sure to get some laughs (and funny faces)! ...
whistle pop

Whistle Pop

Even though life isn’t peaches & cream at an age where it should be, doesn’t mean there’s no room for a little fun. Just whistle while you work (we mean play), or during treatment, with these cute little pops. Want to try a specific tune? Just move the plastic stick creates different pitches. Then eat this delicious treat.

FAQs

Flowers, plants, some scented beauty products, and perfumes. Flowers and plants can carry bacteria and fungal spores making them a bad choice for a gift for cancer patients. Cancer patients that have been through chemo or radiation also often are sensitive to strong smells making strong smelling beauty products or perfumes a bad choice.
Common side effects include nausea, fatigue, hair loss, skin sensitivity, mouth sores, a weakened immune system, cognitive changes, loss of appetite or taste changes, and nerve damage.
Ideas for items that help with the side effects of chemo include ginger candies or quesy pops, anti-nausea wristbands, cozy blankets, soft hats, socks, or scarves, gentle skincare products, hypoallergenic lotions, lip balm, hand sanitizers, masks, journals, memory aids, puzzles and snacks. Many of these helpful items can be found in our care packages.
While thoughtful and supportive, it’s essential to consider the individual’s specific health condition and any dietary or skincare restrictions they may have. Avoid strongly scented items or products that might interfere with treatment. Always consult with the patient or their caregivers, and when in doubt, check with the healthcare team.

Exceeded my expectations!

After racking my brains out about what to get my friend’s son as a small gesture letting him know he’s on our minds while going through chemo, I came across this site and they did not disappoint! Shipping was prompt, especially for delivering to Hawaii. I should also add that I emailed their company prior to making the purchases & received prompt responses each time. So happy to have been able to support a fellow Long Islander as well.

Lovely gift

Bought this for a young child and she loves it. Can’t speak for how the overall experience was, as I wasn’t there when she received the package.

Care Basket for a Young Child was Perfect

Pearl, we are so sorry that your nephew has to go through treatment. Cancer is always horrible. But when a child has to go through it...it is simply unimaginable. We wish him many prayers and blessings!

Staying Hopeful

So here's the deal. I bought the item as a gift for a family with a child undergoing radiation and Chemo. Rock the Treatment seemed, and still does seem, perfect. But how would I know? So it's hard to comment on "How was your overall experience using the item?" Pressed to write a review, I called the family. Understandably, they are overwhelmed. They were grateful for my thoughtfulness; seemed less than euphoric about the gift. But who knows whether that's because euphoria is not among their emotional options right now. Bottom line: I can't comment on the success of the gift. But I would give it again, as the gesture means as much as the enjoyment.

Jackie, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Cancer is never an easy thing. But in a child it is especially heartbreaking. We are so happy to have been a small part of joy for your nieces sweet boy. Many blessings to you all.
